Contemporary Artist Nottingham

Andy Taylor is a contemporary abstract artist based in Nottingham, creating original paintings that explore the emotional power of light, weather and landscape.

Working from a private studio in Mapperley, Andy produces large-scale acrylic paintings using palette knife and impasto technique – building texture, depth and movement across the canvas. His work moves between chaos and calm, darkness and light, drawing on the wild coastlines of North Yorkshire, the moorlands of Derbyshire and the vast skies of the British landscape.

Works are held in the Nottingham Trent University collection and have been shown at Broadway Gallery in Nottingham, Sherwood Art Week, and Limited2Art Gallery in Retford.

Original Paintings

Every painting is a one-of-a-kind original, signed and delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Andy works in series – building paintings that speak to each other through shared colour, energy and emotional tone.

Recent series include the Sea Trilogy, exploring the raw movement of coastal water, and the Fire/Land Trilogy, a study in heat, earth and intensity. New work is added regularly.

As a Nottingham-based collector, you are welcome to view paintings in person by appointment at the Mapperley studio before committing to a purchase.

Commissions

Andy accepts a small number of commissions each year, working closely with collectors to create paintings that respond to a specific space, palette or emotional brief. Commission enquiries are welcome from Nottingham and across the UK.

Exhibitions and Shows

Andy shows regularly across Nottingham and the East Midlands:

• Broadway Gallery, Nottingham – Solo exhibition, Into the Light, June 2025. Fourteen paintings shown, six original sales, two commissions and one reservation.
• Nottingham open studios – opening to studio to all
• Sherwood Art Week – Annual participation, display in shop windows
• Limited2Art Gallery, Retford – Group exhibition with Ruth Stone.

Nottingham Art Scene

Nottingham has a genuinely rich contemporary art scene – from the Lakeside Arts Centre at the University of Nottingham to the independent galleries and open studio events that run throughout the year. As a Nottingham-based artist, Andy is proud to be part of that community, showing locally and working with collectors across the city and county.
