Nottingham Open Studios Artist
Andy Taylor is an abstract painter and Nottingham Open Studios artist, opening his private studio in Mapperley to visitors each year. It is a rare chance to see original paintings in the space where they were made – to spend time with the work, ask questions, and buy direct from the artist.
Andy works in acrylic using palette knife and impasto technique, creating large-scale paintings that explore the emotional power of light, weather and landscape. His work moves between chaos and calm, darkness and light – bold, textured and full of presence.
About Nottingham Open Studios
Nottingham Open Studios is an annual event that opens artists’ studios across the city and county to the public. It is one of the best ways to discover local artists, see work in progress, and buy original art directly from the people who make it.
For collectors, Open Studios removes the gallery layer entirely. You meet the artist, hear the story behind the work, and buy with complete confidence about what you’re getting and where it came from.
Visiting the Art Haus Studio
The Art Haus studio is based in Mapperley, Nottingham – a short drive or bus ride from the city centre. During Open Studios, the space is set up to show a full selection of original paintings across Andy’s current series, including large statement canvases and more intimate works.
There is no pressure and no obligation. Come and look, ask questions, and spend time with the paintings. Studio visits outside of Open Studios are also available by appointment year-round.
Original Paintings Available to Buy
All paintings shown during Open Studios are original, one-of-a-kind works – signed and delivered with a certificate of authenticity. Prices range from accessible smaller works to large investment pieces.
Andy works in series, developing paintings that share a visual language across colour, energy and emotional tone. Current series include the Sea Trilogy – three large-scale works exploring the movement and power of coastal water – and the Fire/Land Trilogy, a study in heat, earth and intensity.
Work is also available to view and purchase online at art-haus.co.uk year-round.
Commissions
Open Studios is a great opportunity to discuss a commission. Andy accepts a small number of bespoke commissions each year – paintings made specifically for a space, a palette, or an emotional brief. If you have a wall in mind, bring a photo and let’s talk.
Exhibition History
Andy exhibits regularly across Nottingham and the East Midlands:
- Broadway Gallery, Nottingham – Solo exhibition Into the Light, June 2025. Six original sales, two commissions and one reservation.
- Nottingham Open Studios – Opening the studio to all.
- Sherwood Art Week – Annual participation, display in shop windows across the area.
- Limited2Art Gallery, Retford – Group exhibition with Ruth Stone.
Work is held in the Nottingham Trent University collection.
