Forest Alchemy

I painted Forest Alchemy on a quiet early morning, following a woodland walk just as the sun was beginning to pull itself above the treeline. There was this moment, standing among the trees, where the light broke through in a way that felt almost violent in its beauty. That tension is what I wanted to capture here. Not a peaceful sunrise, but a forceful one. The kind that reminds you the world is still alive and moving whether you are ready for it or not.

The deep ocean blues and teals came first, laid down in sweeping layers that I let bleed and pool across the canvas. Then came the warmth, the burnt oranges and reds pushing in from the upper right, the golden yellows gathering on the left. And finally that white. That luminous, almost breathless focal point in the lower centre that feels less like light painted and more like light remembered. I worked the composition so your eye travels diagonally through the painting, from warmth into cool depth, the way your body moves through a forest without quite deciding to.

The title came after. Alchemy felt right because something does transform in this piece. Darkness does not disappear, it just becomes less final. I hope when you sit with this painting, you feel that too. That particular kind of hope that is not cheerful but is real. It is part of my ongoing Into the Light collection, a body of work exploring what it means to move through difficulty toward something worth reaching.
