Golden Ascent was inspired by a November day on the North Yorkshire coast at Whitby. A storm was raging, the sea turbulent and dark, and then the sun broke through. That moment of light emerging from chaos.  Calm and space appearing where there was none. Hope arriving quietly after the turmoil.

That’s what this painting holds.

Sweeping veils of gold move across cooler blue and slate tones, building a sense of lift and quiet momentum. It feels elemental — like weather turning, cloud opening, something luminous pushing through the dark. The layered texture shifts as the light in the room changes throughout the day.
