Visit the Studio — Original Paintings in Nottingham

Andy Taylor’s studio is based in Mapperley, Nottingham. If you’ve found this page, you’re probably the kind of person who’d rather stand in front of a painting than judge it from a thumbnail. Good instinct. A painting is a physical thing — the texture, the scale, the way light moves across the surface as you cross the room. None of that survives a screen. So the door is open to anyone who wants to see the work properly before they buy.

View original paintings by appointment

I work from a studio in Nottingham, and I’m happy to arrange a private viewing for anyone seriously interested in a piece. There’s no showroom and no pressure, just a chance to see current originals in person, talk through the work, and find out whether a particular painting is right for your space.

Viewings are by appointment so I can give you proper time and make sure the pieces you want to see are out and ready. If you’ve had your eye on something in the original paintings collection, this is the way to see it in the flesh before you commit.

To arrange a viewing, get in touch here with a rough idea of what you’re drawn to and when suits you.

Meet the artist

Most of my collectors like knowing where a painting came from and who made it. I left a long career in marketing to paint full time, and every piece is made by hand here in Nottingham, built up through layers of colour, erasure and response until it settles into something that feels right. When you buy direct, you’re not buying from a marketplace algorithm. You’re buying from the person who made the thing.

You can read more about my background and how I work if you’d like the longer story.

Open studios and local events

Alongside private viewings, I show work at open studio events and galleries around Nottingham and the East Midlands through the year. These are a relaxed, no-appointment way to see a range of originals together, meet me, and get a feel for the work as a body rather than one piece at a time.

If you’d like to know when the next open studio or local exhibition is happening, the best way is to join the newsletter — I share dates there before they go public, along with new originals as they’re finished.

Commissions for Nottingham collectors

If you’ve a particular wall, scale or mood in mind and nothing quite fits, I take on a limited number of commissions each year. Being local makes this especially straightforward, we can talk it through in person, look at the space, and shape a piece around it. Start with the commission details here.

Buying original art in Nottingham

Buying an original painting direct from a Nottingham artist means no gallery markup, a certificate of authenticity with every piece, and the chance to actually meet the person whose work will hang on your wall for years. Whether you visit by appointment, catch an open studio, or commission something bespoke, you’re buying a one-of-a-kind work straight from the studio.
