Burning Surf is one of my earlier paintings and explores something that has fascinated me from the beginning. What happens when two powerful elements meet and become something neither could be alone.
Sun and wave. Heat and water. Two forces that should cancel each other out instead combining to create something unique and electric. The burning surf is not sun and it is not sea. It is the third thing. The thing that only exists in the collision.
There is something primal about that moment when a wave catches the full force of the sun at its peak. The spray ignites. The water becomes fire. For a fraction of a second something extraordinary exists that will never be exactly repeated.
This painting holds that fraction of a second.
