Description
Summer Dawn, Birchover was painted from memory of standing on the Druid’s Rocks above Birchover in the Derbyshire Peak District. From that vantage point you sit above ancient woodland that feels genuinely old. Undisturbed. Patient in a way that makes you feel briefly outside of time.
On a mid summer morning the heat arrives early and the mist that lingers in the valley below catches the light and mingles with the mass of green beneath you. The woodland breathes. The light moves through it slowly, warming the mist from below and illuminating the canopy from above.
It is one of those mornings where the world feels entirely benevolent. Where nature is doing something quietly magnificent and asking nothing of you except to be present for it.
A painting about the particular peace of being above the treeline at dawn, watching something ancient and unhurried do what it has always done.
