Brightwater

Brightwater is a recent painting and in many ways a distillation of everything that drives my work. The single beam of light emerging from darkness. Not scattered, not diffuse. One certain source, illuminating everything it touches.

What interested me here was the impact of that central light on what surrounds it. The way one point of brightness changes the colour and feeling of everything in its reach. Dark tones that seemed fixed and permanent suddenly reveal warmth and depth. The world around the light is transformed simply by its presence.

It is a painting about influence. About what one source of hope or clarity can do to everything around it. How a single beam of light doesn’t just illuminate itself. It changes the whole room.
