Description
Fields of Ember was begun on Remembrance Sunday. I wasn’t planning to paint anything particular that day but as the brush met the canvas something subconscious took over. Thoughts of poppies. Of remembering. Of all those lives that deserved more than they got.
But grief wasn’t what came out. What came out was something joyous and hopeful. As if the remembering itself was an act of celebration rather than mourning. The ember tones of amber, crimson and gold feel less like loss and more like warmth. Like lives that burned brightly and left colour behind.
This is a painting about honouring what was, while choosing to face forward into the light.
