Beneath the Silence

Beneath the Silence is currently on loan to the Nottingham Trent University art collection, alongside four other of my works.

This painting came from an unexpectedly early morning in Mapperley, Nottingham. Up before the world had woken, watching the mist clear and disperse as the sunrise caught it and turned it crimson. That particular silence of early morning when the light is doing something extraordinary and you are the only witness to it.

There is an intimacy to that kind of moment. The feeling that the sky is performing for no one in particular and you have simply been lucky enough to be there. The mist dissolving into crimson clouds has a quiet drama that doesn’t announce itself. It simply unfolds.

A painting about the rewards of being awake when the world is still sleeping.
