Silent Edge

Description

Silent Edge is one of my earlier paintings and came from watching the sun set over the Derbyshire moorland. That particular quality of a moorland sunset where the landscape becomes very simple and very powerful at the same time. All the detail of the day burns away and what remains is essential and still.

I wanted the painting to carry that quality. Thoughtful and uncluttered. Nothing unnecessary. Just the edge of the moor against the dying light and the silence that comes with it.

There is a kind of courage in simplicity. In resisting the urge to add more and trusting that what is already there is enough. Silent Edge was an early lesson in that. The moor doesn’t need embellishment. It just needs to be seen.
