Night Surf

Description

Night Surf began with a single idea: that darkness and heat aren’t opposites. The title suggests a scene without colour, but nothing here stays quiet. Crimson and violet crash and pool where you might expect only black and silver, the surf breaking with the same energy as fire rather than cold water.

I worked the sky first, layering the reds and purples with a palette knife until they felt like weather rather than paint, something moving rather than fixed. The white surge along the shoreline came last, cut hard against the dark headland to hold the whole thing together.

It’s a painting about the parts of night that don’t feel calm. The sea that keeps working long after everyone else has stopped watching it.
